Glaucoma Capacity Management
The United Kingdom has a national glaucoma capacity crisis. I have worked in a range of roles within the NHS and commercial sector to find solutions for this capacity crisis. Together with an international team of glaucoma surgeons I have developed a real-world Glaucoma Stratification System (Glauc-Strat 3). This system allows clinicians and commissioners to model the risk of loss of vision in glaucoma and the level of resource needed to manage the demand-capacity mismatch.
I am able to advise NHS Trusts and commercial operations on the fine balance between delivering solutions for the demand-capacity mismatch and patient safety/litigation issues.
I was invited to write an article for the Medical Defence Union Journal in 2019 and this can be found open access in the link below.
Glaucoma In-Sourcing Solutions
I worked for 12 months in 2019 as the Medical Director for Governance and Patient Safety for Medicare, UK. During this time I developed a range of innovative models to help NHS Trusts solve glaucoma demand-capacity mismatch problems. I helped engineer systems to optimise patient flow through high capacity glaucoma assessment clinics.
Patient Safety Strategies
I am considered a world leader in glaucoma patient safety strategies. I have lectured extensively nationally and internationally on this subject and specialise in preventing glaucoma litigation. I use a systems analysis approach to control all elements of the patient journey with glaucoma. It is possible to substantially improve the patient safety profile of all NHS units by using a model which addresses the critical points at which patient harm can occur.
